In the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, this study focuses on the growing wave of megaprojects in the Peruvian economy. Specifically, it examines the case of the Port of Chancay in Peru and draws a comparison with the Port of Shanghai in China, aiming to understand the transformations that these megaprojects generate in the surrounding areas. In the context of Chancay’s transformation into a mega port, three main areas of impact are identified: economic, social, and environmental. Additionally, it discusses how Chinese investment in megaprojects can create both opportunities and risks for local communities. This study seeks to understand how megaprojects influence the daily life of the Peruvians, from metropolitan areas to towns and cities where significant investments are taking place. It is concluded that to comprehend these dynamics, it is essential to address the economic, social, and environmental challenges that arise with the arrival of megaprojects in Peru.
