The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Spain and China, established in 2005, marked a significant political milestone in their bilateral relations, which began in 1973. Since then, China has become Spain’s fourth-largest trading partner, surpassing several other European countries. Beyond political and economic ties, social dialogue has emerged as a key dimension for strengthening the bilateral relationship, by involving civil society and fostering mutual understanding. This chapter examines the potential of social dialogue in the Spain-China relationship. It begins by reviewing the main socio-economic challenges faced by both countries and the corresponding political responses. It then argues that, although still limited, social dialogue can be a valuable tool to promote trust and cooperation in an international context marked by growing geopolitical tensions.
