It shows that there are matching points between the concepts of the Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative” (BRI), particularly the “economic corridors”, and those of the South American physical integration. Moreover, the analysis of international trade routes between South America and Asia suggest the need for consolidation of a regular and competitive transpacific maritime direct connection. Therefore, the extension of BRI to South America would consist of establishing a transpacific economic corridor. The challenge for the future is to advance more deeply in the pillar of connectivity.
