Associate Director of CECHAP Conducts Academic Visit to South Korea in the Context of APEC 2025

From May 6 to 10, 2025, José Carlos Feliciano Nishikawa, Associate Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), undertook an academic visit to South Korea as part of the international engagement activities promoted by APEC. Feliciano visited the cities of Seoul and Jeju with the aim of strengthening academic cooperation with key institutions, as well as attending the 2025 APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference, which was hosted this year in South Korea and brings together academic institutions from the 21 member economies of the Forum.

During his stay in Seoul, Feliciano held meetings with representatives from prominent Korean universities such as Korea University and Sogang University, where they discussed potential joint research programs, as well as student and faculty exchanges. He also met with representatives of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), a leading think tank specializing in the analysis of emerging economies, to explore opportunities for collaborative projects.

As part of his agenda, he also visited the Embassy of Peru in South Korea, where he learned about initiatives aimed at strengthening Peru’s presence in Asia-Pacific dialogue and cooperation platforms.

One of the key highlights of the visit was Feliciano’s participation as CECHAP’s representative in the 2025 APEC Study Centers Consortium Conference, held on May 7 on Jeju Island. The conference gathered representatives from APEC study centers across member economies and enabled a substantive exchange of ideas on shared challenges.

The visit represented a valuable opportunity to expand institutional ties with South Korea, create new possibilities for academic cooperation, and reinforce CECHAP’s presence in the strategic spaces of the APEC forum.
