Bicentennial Agenda, “The Chinese Economy in Globalization: Trends and Opportunities for Peru”
On March 9, 2021, Dr. Santa Gadea, director of the Center for China and Asia–Pacific Studies at the Universidad del Pacífico, presented her study “The Chinese Economy in Globalization: Trends and Opportunities for Peru” as part of the Bicentennial Agenda project with its focus on new evidence-based proposals and recommendations to improve living standards and promote development in Peru.
In her study, Dr. Santa Gadea takes a new perspective on China that centers on the outcomes of its development strategies and its future proposals. In so doing, she finds that (i) China’s economic transformation and the rise in its global value chains present opportunities for Peru; (ii) China’s emergence as a net foreign investor, which will be reinforced through the Belt and Road Initiative, open doors for Peru; (iii) The 2050 Goals set by the Chinese government stand to boost Peru’s integration into the global economic environment; and (iv) The international context requires strong international institutions as spaces for collaboration and conflict resolution, and must be complemented with a plan for the future focused on economic integration and regional cooperation.
