CECHAP Associate Director participates in the Juntos 2024 program of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs
From September 30 to October 4, José Carlos Feliciano Nishikawa, associate director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, traveled to the cities of Tokyo, Tsukuba and Kyoto in Japan to participate in the Juntos 2024 Program, an initiative organized by the Japanese Foreign Ministry. The program also included the participation of 11 representatives from distinguished Latin American universities such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad de los Andes of Colombia, among others.
The objective of this experience was to generate spaces for academic understanding between Japan and Latin America through the exchange between their universities. The participants visited Waseda University, where they were able to learn about opportunities for collaboration in the field of student exchange. They also visited the campus of Tsukuba University, a university specializing in cooperation with the region and Latin American studies, where they were able to talk with specialists about Japanese economic development and relations with Latin America. In addition, at this university, they were able to exchange views with students from Latin America who are currently studying there and visit its renowned research center specializing in Sleep Medicine. Finally, they also visited Kyoto Seika University in Kyoto, a university renowned for its focus on design and manga, and learned more about the cultural impact of these artistic expressions that combine modernity and tradition.
As another agenda item, the participants also held a session with the Latin American section of the Japanese Foreign Ministry to learn the views of their officials in the current international context and the role of Japanese diplomacy in the various regions of the world. Finally, our deputy director was able to meet with officials of the Embassy of Peru in Japan. The meeting explored the possibility of greater collaboration with Cechap for activities and projects to study Peru-Japan relations.
