CECHAP co-organizes the VIII International Symposium of Relations between Latin America and the Asia Pacific
On October 10 and 11, the VIII International Symposium on Relations between Latin America and Asia-Pacific was held. This event was co-organized by the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies and the International Business program at the Faculty of Business Sciences of the Universidad del Pacífico. Additionally, it was sponsored by the Cátedra de la Alianza del Pacífico, which includes the Universidad del Pacífico in Perú, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, Universidad Alberto Hurtado in Chile, and Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
The first day of the symposium featured a keynote address by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, an international business consultant from India. Dr. Kumar delivered a presentation titled “Asia Pacific in the Global Economy: The Remaking of the Global Economic Order.” Four panel discussions were also held, focusing on topics related to business internationalization, the global economy, and international trade.
The second day included a keynote address by Dr. Haibin Niu, director of the Institute of Foreign Policy Studies at the Shanghai Institute of International Studies. Dr. Niu presented his talk, “Autonomous Development Approach for China and Latin America in a Changing World.” Six additional panel discussions took place, addressing themes related to International Relations and Sustainability.
The symposium counted with the attendance of students and faculty members from the Universidad del Pacífico, as well as with different universities involved in the Alianza del Pacífico. Additionally, it had as guests’ members of the academic community, public policy makers, representatives from the sector of exportations, and individuals engaged in the international field.
Throughout the various presentations at the symposium, discussions focused on the Alianza del Pacífico and its relations with Asia, highlighting its geopolitical position and macro-regional agreements. Issues related to international trade and development were also addressed, with particular attention to existing challenges and emerging forms of interregionalism. Another key topic was export performance, where the impact of culture, experience, and the proactive strategies of exporting firms were explored. Furthermore, the symposium examined internationalization and sustainability, emphasizing the agro-industrial sector, Start-Ups, and the digital transformation within companies.
The political and cultural relations between Latin America and Asia Pacific were also analyzed. Particularly in terms of international safety and new potential threats. And lastly, it was also examined strategies for business sustainability, including the application of value chains and the digital economy.
