CECHAP participates in the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum 2025 in Kunming, China

From September 5 to 9, 2025, the Global South Media and Think Tank Forum 2025 was held in the city of Kunming, Yunnan Province (China). This event brought together nearly 500 representatives from more than 260 media outlets, research centers, government agencies, and international organizations from 110 countries and regions across the Global South.
Organized by Xinhua News Agency, the forum aimed to strengthen communication channels and promote exchanges between media organizations and think tanks in the Global South amid profound geopolitical and technological transformations. Claudia Caceres Salvatierra, Communications and Events Manager, participated on behalf of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP).
Under the theme “Empowering Global South, Navigating Global Changes,” this second edition of the forum sought to build consensus around cooperation, dialogue among civilizations, and the strengthening of exchanges between media and think tanks. Additionally, the discussions emphasized the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence, innovation, and new technologies as tools to enhance collaborative content production and promote original narratives within the global media landscape.
During the forum, the Yunnan Consensus was presented — a joint commitment to expand collaboration in news production and analysis — along with a report on China’s contribution to global intellectual public goods. Furthermore, the Global South Joint Communication Association Network was officially launched, comprising more than 1,000 media outlets, think tanks, and institutions from 95 countries.
CECHAP’s participation in this event reaffirms its commitment to fostering global dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the construction of cooperative bridges that help amplify the perspectives and priorities of the Global South on the international stage.
