CECHAP Researcher Participated in Academic Events on China and Global Extractivism in Sweden

Omar Narrea, researcher at the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), represented Universidad del Pacífico at two prominent academic gatherings in Sweden, both focused on China’s role in the new circuits of global extractivism and the energy transition.
From June 11 to 13, Narrea took part in the Workshop on Global China and Just Transitions, organized by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI). This forum brought together specialists from different parts of the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities posed by China’s global expansion in contexts of just transition.
Subsequently, from June 16 to 19, he attended the Global China Summer School 2025: China in Circuits of Global Extractivism, organized by the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University. This edition sought to explore the historical legacies and contemporary implications of China’s involvement in processes and patterns of global extractivism. It also convened leading scholars researching Chinese globalization, providing a space to reflect on the current state of Global China Studies and to outline future research directions.
Through these activities, CECHAP fosters participation in international academic networks grounded in the critical analysis of contemporary economic and geopolitical transformations, while also advancing a perspective from the Global South.
