Compilation of Chinese environmental and social guidelines for foreign operations
The webinar took place on October 30, 2020 and featured Paulina Garzón, who presented the recent IISCAL publication “Compilación de directrices ambientales y sociales chinas para las operaciones en el extranjero” (Compilation of Chinese environmental and social guidelines for foreign operations), as well as Mónica Núñez, associate researcher at the UP Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, who gave an overview of Chinese investments in Peru. The event, aimed at the various public and private actors involved in the implementation of extractive and infrastructure projects in Peru, promoted the IISCAL publication as a tool to facilitate ongoing participatory dialogue on environmental protection and sustainability in the framework of Chinese investment in Peru. The compilation contains 24 guidelines, translated into Spanish, that have been promulgated by various regulatory agencies, state banks, and trade and industry associations in China so as to orientate Chinese companies and financiers in improving their assessment and management of environmental and social risks, and in avoiding and mitigating negative impacts on their projects abroad.
