Cynthia Sanborn, Director of CECHAP, Participates in International Seminar in Santiago de Chile

On November 27 and 28, 2025, Dr. Cynthia Sanborn, Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), took part in the international seminar “Chile–Peru: Spaces and Challenges in the Pacific Basin.” The event was organized by the School of Law and Social Sciences of Universidad San Sebastian in Santiago, Chile.

The first day featured the panel “Opportunities and Challenges for Cooperation in the Pacific Alliance and the Pacific Basin.” Dr. Sanborn participated on behalf of Universidad del Pacifico and CECHAP, together with Dr. Fabián Novak, representing the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.

On the second day, a public seminar titled “Chile–Peru and Their Respective Partnership Strategies with ASEAN” brought together representatives from Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Peruvian ambassador to Chile, other diplomats, members of the armed forces, and academics from Universidad San Sebastián and various other institutions. Dr. Sanborn, alongside Dr. Fabián Novak, Dr. Paz Milet of Universidad de Chile, and Professor Jaime Abedrapo of USS, served as the main speakers. In her presentation, Sanborn highlighted the roles of Chile and Peru within the ASEAN framework, emphasizing both countries’ progress in their commercial relations with Asia.

At CECHAP, we welcome opportunities that foster dialogue and joint reflection between Chile and Peru, two countries with significant prospects for future cooperation. In a global context in which Asia, and China in particular, continue to gain influence, it is essential to promote adaptive and collaborative strategies that address emerging international challenges.
