International Conference with Tsinghua University of China on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Peru
This important event, held on May 31st 2019, was organized by the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies at UP and the Latin American Center of Tsinghua University, which is considered the n° 1 university in China in the international rankings and with which the Center has been able to weave cooperation networks. The Belt and Road Initiative constitutes a new framework for China to channel its economic cooperation with developing countries, where one of the primary pillars is connectivity. In a framework to analyze the outlook for Peru, the event was inaugurated with a presentation by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Mr. Edgar Vasquez. This was followed by presentations by Dr. Chen Taotao, Director of the Latin American Center at Tsinghua University and Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea, Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies at the UP. Ambassador Elard Escala, General Director of Asia and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Relations of Peru, gave the closing words at the conference. Business and academic commentaries were made by notable specialists: Mr. Jose Tam, president of the Chinese-Peruvian Chamber of Commerce; Mrs. Tao Fenghua, General Manager of ICBC Bank in Peru and Vice President of the Association of Chinese Businesses in our country and Professors Julio Aguirre and Omar Narrea of the Academic Department of Economics and the School of Public Management at UP, respectively.
