Omar Narrea Analyzes the Strategic Impact of the Port of Chancay at the BCRP and the Congress of the Republic of Peru

The CECHAP researcher, Omar Narrea, participated in two key spaces for analyzing the impact of the Chancay hub port on the Peruvian economy and its role in regional connectivity.
On Thursday, July 11, Narrea was a speaker at the Research Seminar of the Economic Policy Area of the Banco Central de Reserva del Perú (BCRP), with the lecture “The Port of Chancay: How to Leverage Peru’s Strategic Location on the West Coast of South America through its Port Leadership.” In his presentation, he emphasized the need to design public policies that consolidate the country’s port competitiveness and attract diversified investments across different sectors. Drawing on his research and visits to countries that are part of the Belt and Road Initiative, he analyzed how recent infrastructure projects are reshaping economies and trade relations in the Global South.
Subsequently, on Tuesday, July 15, he participated in the Working Group on the Second Phase of the Chancay Megaport and Bioceanic Connectivity, organized by the Congress of the Republic. The event brought together leading academic specialists, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), CCL, ADEX, the port’s operating company, among other stakeholders, to debate the logistical challenges and integration opportunities posed by this project.
These engagements reaffirm CECHAP’s commitment to the rigorous analysis of processes that are redefining Peru’s national agenda and international insertion.
