Professors from Universidad del Pacífico Participated in Major International Forum in China: Shanghai Forum 2025

Universidad del Pacífico had a prominent presence at the Shanghai Forum 2025, one of the leading spaces for academic and policy dialogue in Asia. Co-sponsored by Fudan University of China and the Chey Institute for Advanced Studies of South Korea, and organized by the Fudan Development Institute (FDDI), this major annual event is dedicated to convening leaders from various countries and sectors, promoting dialogue and interaction, and enhancing global cooperation.
Representing Universidad del Pacífico were Dr. Cynthia Sanborn, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), as an invited speaker, and Dr. Francisco Galarza, Head of the Department of Economics, as a special attendee. They were the only Peruvian academics present at the forum.
Sanborn participated in a session titled “The Global Transformation and State Development Drivers”, where she presented on “National States and Natural Resource Governance in Times of Global Uncertainty.” Alongside experts from China, the UK, South Korea, Argentina, Mexico, and Pakistan, this subforum analyzed the role of states as drivers of development in today’s global context.
During their visit, Professors Sanborn and Galarza also held meetings with authorities from Fudan University, including Vice President Dr. Chen Zhimin; Executive Vice Dean of FDDI, Dr. Zhang Yi; and Dean of the School of Economics, Dr. Zhang Jun, who is also a member of CECHAP’s Advisory Board and one of China’s most renowned economists. They agreed to strengthen faculty and researcher exchange between Universidad del Pacífico and Fudan University and to explore new avenues of academic cooperation.
Universidad del Pacífico is a member of the Fudan University Latin America University Consortium (FLAUC), a network of leading universities in the region. In recent years, this relationship has enabled academic exchanges for UP researchers and faculty at Fudan and vice versa.
The participation of Sanborn and Galarza in the Shanghai Forum 2025 reinforces Universidad del Pacífico’s commitment to internationalization, high-level academic exchange, and the strategic study of Asia as a key region in the global landscape.
