Research affiliates Alejandro Flores and Cathy Rubiños participate in APEC workshop
On March 4 and 5, CECHAP research affiliates Alejandro Flores and Cathy Rubiños took part in the APEC “Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group Workshop on the Formalization Process of Informal Business through Digital Connectivity,” held at the Lima Convention Center in parallel to the APEC First Senior Officials’ Meeting.
At this event, which featured representatives of the 21 APEC members along with speakers from multilateral organizations, our researchers presented the preliminary findings of the study “Digital Bridges to Formalization: Insights from APEC Business Environments,” which explores the role of digitalization in the formalization of companies from APEC economies.
During the two-day workshop, attendees also discussed the various causes of informality across the member economies, formalization success stories and mechanisms, public policy, and the perspective of multilateral organizations on this subject.
The director of CECHAP, Dr. Cynthia Sanborn, provided the opening words while deputy director José Carlos Feliciano closed the event.
