UP students strengthen their global training at Tsinghua University, one of the best in Asia

Business Engineering students participated in an intensive program in Beijing, where they explored innovation, logistics and intelligence systems.

In July, Business Engineering students Pamela Solange Prudencio Lezama and Arturo Alvarez De La Torre Sequeiros traveled to Beijing to participate in the academic program: “Industrial engineering and Data Analytics” (IEDA), organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University, recognized as the “MIT of China” for the excellence in science, technology and innovation. The experience, coordinated with the Center of China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP), allowed them to broaden their horizons, engage with international students, and understand the Asian country’s dynamics.

A unique opportunity to grow

An interest in Asia was what motivated Pamela to apply: “I’ve always had a great interest for their culture, history and the way they have combined both tradition and technology. I felt it was a unique opportunity to live something different and enrich my academic training.” Arturo agrees on the strategic relevance of the experience: “China is a fundamental part of the global future, both economically and technologically, and I considered it essential to live this experience to better understand its role and dynamics.”

The initial enthusiasm was complemented by CECHAP’s support, which was key during the application process. Pamela especially remembers the help with visa procedures—“complex and with many documents”—while Arturo highlights the direct communication with the host university, which allowed everything to move forward without setbacks.

Classroom knowledge and multicultural learning

At Tsinghua University, the students immerse themselves in a program that combines courses on international logistics, business innovation, sustainability, and smart production systems. Pamela highlights International Logistics, which allowed her to understand how global supply chains rely on artificial intelligence. Arturo, on the other hand, recalls Smart Production Systems with particular interest: “It was one of the most interesting classes because it combined advised theory with practical examples from learning Chinese innovation companies.”

The lessons went beyond the classroom. Living with peers from different countries further enriched their learning. Pamela notes: “I made friends from India, Brazil, South Korea, and Vietnam…it was very rewarding to learn about their cultures and ways of thinking.” This multicultural dimension turned the experience into a true laboratory of global collaboration.

Immersion in life in China

The exchange also led them to discover everyday life in Beijing, marked by the contrast between tradition and modernity. Pamela recalls the impact of the fast-paced lifestyle and digitalization in every aspect: “Everything is done with your phone—from paying in stores to using the subway.” Arturo, for his part, highlighted the discipline and respect for education he observed in Chinese society, as well as its long-term vision.

The support of UP training

Both students recognize that the preparation received at Universidad del Pacífico was key to, making the most of this experience. Pamela values skills such as adaptability and empathy, which helped her live with people from different cultures. Arturo highlights UP’s emphasis on leadership and communication, which gave her the confidence to lead teams in group projects.

They even found direct connections with their courses. Pamela recalls: “In Value Engineering Management, we did a supply chain simulation that appeared again at Tsingua, and gave me a lot of confidence.” Arturo adds: “The solid foundation in critical thinking and technical knowledge from UP was crucial for me to adapt quickly to such a demanding academic environment.”

Looking ahead

The participation of these students at Tsinghua university reflect Universidad del Pacifico’s commitment to the international training of its students, offering them opportunities that strengthen their professional profiles and prepare them to lead in an interconnected world. These experiences not only enrich their academic development but also reinforce UP’s mission to train purposeful leaders capable of generating global impact from Peru.
