Visit by Australian Ambassadors
On Monday, April 24, 2023, the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP) at Universidad del Pacífico, received a visit by John McCarthy, the distinguished expert in internationalism and retired ambassador of Australia, accompanied by Her Excellency Ms. Maree Ringland, Ambassador of Australia in Peru.
Mr. McCarthy served as Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Mexico, Thailand, the United States, Indonesia, Japan, and High Commissioner to India. The Australian diplomats were received by Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea, Professor Cynthia Sanborn, and Mr. José Carlos Feliciano, who hold the positions of director, member of the Advisory Committee, and deputy director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, respectively.
Other special invitees were Professor Joanna Kamiche, director of the Research Center (CIUP) and Gonzalo Delgado, director of the UP Center for Mining and Sustainability Studies (CEMS) at Universidad del Pacífico. During the meeting, points of view were exchanged on the international relations of Australia, Peru, and the Indo-Pacific.
That same afternoon Ambassador McCarthy gave a talk on the Indo-Pacific, Australia, and China to undergraduate students enrolled on the “International Relations” course led by Professor Fernando Bambarén. The ambassador was accompanied in this activity by Ambassador Ringland and Dr. Santa Gadea
