2nd Academic Gathering on Exports: “Bilateral Relations and the Use of the Peru–China FTA”
On Thursday, May 27, at Universidad del Pacífico’s Maes Heller auditorium, the 2nd Academic Gathering on Exports, titled “Bilateral relations and the Use of the Peru–China FTA,” took place. The event was co-organized by the Center for China and Asia Pacific Studies at Universidad del Pacífico and the Association of Exporters (ADEX), with the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Peru.
The gathering featured opening speeches by Dr. Felipe Portocarrero, Rector of Universidad del Pacífico; Mr. Julio Pérez Alván, President of ADEX; and The Most Excellent Song Yang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Peru.
The first presentation, given by Gabriel Arrieta, Head of Economic Studies and Business Intelligence at CIEN-ADEX, explored untapped opportunities for Peruvian exports in the Chinese market. During the second presentation, professors Antonio Cusato and Jorge Chávez, research affiliates at the Center for China and Asia Pacific Studies, presented their research, “A Look at the Use of Tariff Preferences in the Peru–China FTA.”
Thereafter, a panel of distinguished experts exchanged a wide range of opinions on the outcomes and opportunities associated with “Peru–China Bilateral Trade: Results, Tools and Opportunities.” The panel featured Gerardo Meza, Director of the Directorate for Asia, Oceania, and Africa under Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism; Edgar Vásquez, Director of the ADEX Global Business and Economy Research Center (CIEN ADEX); Rosario Santa Gadea, Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies; and The Most Excellent Fernando Quirós, General Director for Asia and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
