9th High-Level China–Latin America Forum
On October 27th and 29th, 2020, the 9th High-Level China–Latin America Forum was held online, organized by the Universidad de Santiago de Chile alongside the Center for Latin American Studies on China at the Universidad Andrés Bello, in coordination with the Institute of Latin American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (ILAS-CASS). Speakers from major Latin American universities, as well as prominent Chinese institutions, participated. The topics on the agenda were the post-pandemic international system, new avenues for cooperation between China and Latin America based on the lessons of the pandemic, successes and failures of value chains during the pandemic, and the pandemic’s long-term effects on science and technology. Each topic was discussed at a roundtable comprised of five panelists, each of whom gave a presentation about their own research. The former two topics were covered on the 27th, while the 29th was dedicated to the latter two. Dr. Santa Gadea took part in the second roundtable, with a presentation on La Economía China en la Globalización: Tendencias y Oportunidades para el Perú (The Chinese Economy and Globalization: Trends and Opportunities for Peru). The event gave rise to a book called China y América Latina Frente a la Pandemia: Pensamientos Desde un Trabajo Conjunto (China and Latin America versus the Pandemic: Thoughts based on Joint Work), which was co-published in December, 2020.
