Director of the center participated in the “China y Perú: creando un futuro común” seminar
Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in cooperation with Tsinghua University organized the international seminar “China y Perú: Creando un futuro común”, an activity held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Peru. This event, which took place on two dates, November 4 and 5, was attended by diplomatic authorities and officials from both countries, as well as Chinese and Peruvian academics.
The topic for the first day of the event was: China and Peru – Past, Present and Future. This session included two panels reviewing the most important achievements in the Chinese-Peruvian cooperation and the prospects for the future.
Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea, Director of the Center China and Asia-Pacific Studies, participated in the second block that included a panel of distinguished academics who spoke on the subject: “50 years of academic exchanges between China and Peru: retrospective and perspective ”. In this panel, Dr. Santa Gadea spoke about the relationship between China and Peru in the international context and its future agenda, highlighting the growing global influence that China has in international trade, its economic transformation and the prospects for its growth in the following years.
Likewise, Dr. Santa Gadea emphasized the importance of studying the experiences and lessons learned from the Chinese economic transformation for the benefit of the country, highlighting in this area the contribution of the publication “Finding a Way to avoid the Middle-Income Trap: The cases of China and Peru ”, a book coordinated between the CenterChina and Asia-Pacific Studies of Universidad del Pacífico and the Institute of World Economics and Politics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which offers a comparative view of the issues in mention. Finally, she stressed that China is closer to becoming a high-income country, due to its factor of productivity, so it is necessary to learn from its development experience.
