Meeting between the South Korean ambassador and the UP rector
On March 4th, 2021, a meeting was held between the rector of the UP, Dr. Felipe Portocarrero, and the ambassador of South Korea in Peru, His Excellency Jo Yungjoon. Accompanying the rector were Dr. Arlette Beltrán, the vice-rector of research at the UP; Dr- Rosario Santa Gadea, director of the UP Center for China and Asia–Pacific Studies; and Dr. Christian Libaque, a professor at the Academic Department of Engineering. In turn, the ambassador was accompanied by Counselor Min Boram, who has responsibility for economic and cultural affairs. Dr. Santa Gadea explained the tasks that the center has undertaken alongside the Republic of Korea, such as joint research, an academic mission to Korea in 2017, that involved visits to seven Korean institutions, academic exchanges, and events with Asia-Pacific and Korean institutions. Since 2016, UP professors have traveled to Korea and taken part in a range of activities with their Korean counterparts. In addition, students and a professor from the Faculty of Engineering have visited important institutions in that country. The Korean ambassador hopes to promote activities alongside the university this or next year to mark the 60th anniversary of the UP’s establishment. These events are expected to cover important topics such as the pandemic and Korea’s responses to it, international politics, digital cooperation, and 5G, among others.
