The President of Universidad del Pacífico receives the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Peru
On March 5th 2020, the President of Universidad del Pacífico, Dr. Felipe Portocarrero, who was accompanied by the Vice President of Research, Dr. Arlette Beltran; Professor Cynthia Sanborn, former Vice President for Research; and the Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies, Dr. Rosario Santa Gadea, received the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency, Mr. Liang Yu, who was accompanied by a delegation from the embassy that included Mr. Yao Yuan, Chief of the Political Section, as well as Mr. Tu Yuanzhou and Ms. Xu Huining, Attachés to this section. UP authorities invited the Ambassador to the university to inform him about the focus, results and perspectives of the work at the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies and to exchange opinions regarding opportunities for academic collaboration down the line. Dr. Santa Gadea gave a presentation on the Center, which emphasized the importance of the annual academic missions made to China to establish ties with Chinese academics. These initiatives have spurred joint research projects and led to a large number of events where academics from China and UP have interacted. The Ambassador remarked that Universidad del Pacífico has been working with the best Chinese universities and think tanks. After the meeting, Mr. Ambassador and his delegation visited UP’s facilities.
