UP assumes responsibility for REDAP coordination
On November 25, 2020, the Peruvian Network for Asia-Pacific Studies (REDAP) held its ordinary session No. 157 online; the event, chaired by the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), included a ceremony to mark the transfer of responsibility for the network’s coordination to the UP. The ceremony was attended by the university´s vice-rector of research, Dr. Arlette Beltrán, and her counterpart at the UPCH, Dr. Alejandro Bussalleu. The attendees received the report of the outgoing coordinator, Dr. Ernesto Gozzer, and thanked him for his dedicated management. The UP is one of the founder members of REDAP, having signed an agreement for its creation alongside six other major Peruvian universities in 1997. The network is now made up of 16 academic institutions, with the ministries of Foreign Trade and Foreign Relations acting as observers. The wide variety of research specialties embodied by REDAP members makes coordination a challenge that the Center for China and Asia–Pacific Studies looks forward to assuming on behalf of the UP, 200 years on from Peruvian independence. Dr. Santa Gadea presented the Center’s work plan for this role, stressing the knowledge and research of its staff and how these attributes can be used to strengthen REDAP and enhance Peru’s role in the Asia–Pacific region.
