Dr. Cynthia Sanborn assumes directorship of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies

On November 24, 2023, Cynthia Ann Sanborn assumed the directorship of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies (CECHAP) at Universidad del Pacífico.
Dr. Cynthia Sanborn is a researcher at CECHAP and the UP Research Center (CIUP), and a principal professor in the Academic Department of Social and Political Sciences at Universidad del Pacífico. She has been Vice-President for Research, Director of CIUP, visiting researcher at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and William Henry Bloomberg Visiting Professor at Harvard University. Dr Sanborn is currently a member of the Working Group on Development and Environment in the Americas at Boston University’s Center for Global Development Policy.
Dr. Sanborn received her PhD and MA in Government from Harvard University and her BA in Political Science from the University of Chicago. She has written and edited numerous publications on topics related to the political economy of development, corporate social responsibility, and the governance of extractive industries. For more than a decade, her research has analyzed the Chinese presence in Peru and Latin America. She is co-author of Governing Extractive Industries: Politics, Histories, and Ideas (Oxford University Press) and China and Sustainable Development in Latin America: The Social and Environmental Dimension (Anthem).
